In the 15th century, Ottoman Admiral Hayreddin Barbarossa expanded and fortified the castle, adding an inner fortress and arsenal in 1533. During the 18th century, during the Greek Orlov Revolt (1770), outer walls were constructed to prevent attacks from the sea.
The fortress completely encircles the island, with walls approximately 3 meters high, built from stone quarried from Yılancıburnu.
Over the centuries, Güvercinada Castle played a vital role in protecting the coastline and the port of Kuşadası from maritime threats, reflecting the region's rich historical heritage.
